Biography

With the success of four Folkestone Zombie Walks we were inspired to form a collective - Planet Folkestone. We work on a volunteer basis from our homes in our spare time. We are fans whose aim is to organise a large scale affordable comic con in our local area for other like minded fans, as volunteers working as a community.

Folkestone is a mecca of artists and businesses that have raised the profile of the town, and we hope to bring all this talent and community spirit together. The increasing interest in our comic con proves that local schools/colleges, bars and businesses are willing to encourage groups like ours to create unique events and transform the town for a day. As a logical progression, we are continuing our work as a platform for charity fundraising, encouraging visitors to the town.

Our first Sci Fi Celebration on May 4th 2013, raised £900.00 for The Folkestone Rainbow Centre and was a huge success.

​

Based on this success we held Geek Fest 2014 at the Leas Cliff Hall, bringing in thousands of people to the venue and the town and raising £1544 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and £1790 for The Folkestone Rainbow Centre.

Folkestone Film, TV and Comic Con 2015 at The Folkestone Academy had over 3000 people attend and raised £5390 for The Folkestone Rainbow Centre and The Alzhiemer Society.

Folkestone Film, TV and Comic Con 2016 at The Folkestone Academy had over 6000 people attend and raised £4000 for East Kent Hospital's Dementia Appeal.

We had been running an annual Zombie Walk in Folkestone town centre lasting for 5 years from 2011 to 2016 raising funds for East Kent Hospitals Charity totalling over £1000 in two years.

​

Total monies raised to date £14,624.00.
